From 8 March 2017 to 7 January 2018 the Coliseum hosts the exhibition 'Coliseum. An icon' that aims to explain to the public the history of the monument symbol of Rome.
The exhibition goes beyond the narration of the best known period, when officially ending the gladiatorial games, to retrace the long and intense life of the site over the centuries through images and objects, for a total of approximately one hundred works on display.
The exhibition is also enriched by the results of recent excavations and restorations, which confirm that the Coliseum was teeming life, crypts, churches, shops, residential buildings of great aristocratic families and humble abodes.
